Russian River Valley Appellation
Owned
by the Auchincloss and Mesics family, the vineyard is located
off Westside Road several hundred feet up above the Russian River
and faces south south-east (see map). Called the “Bella Viña”
vineyard (I think of it as “the Garden of Eva” after the lovely
flower garden planted at the top), it has one of the most beautiful
views in the county! The combination of soils, exposure and location
seem ideal for the Australian Shiraz selection of Syrah
that has been planted on 5C rootstock. The wines have always shows
great color and concentration while having soft tannins and have
fruit characters that show raspberry, blackberry and pepper so
typical of cool climate Syrah.
I love to work at this vineyard, tucking leaves and branches up into the trellis, enjoying the views that stretch south past Sonoma Mountain while listening to the birds and the occasional person on the Russian River below. Congratulations to Joe, Eva and Greta for producing such outstanding fruit and thanks for putting a vineyard in such a special place!
